Establishment of Al-Dhale University
Al-Dhale University is a public government university established in 2008 AD (by Republican Decree No. 119 alongside other public universities: Abyan, Lahj, Al-Bayda, Al-Dhale, and Hajjah). All these universities were inaugurated in their respective governorate capitals except for Al-Dhale University. Due to the unstable situation in the governorate and according to the Republican Decree specifying the university's headquarters in the capital of Al-Dhale Governorate, and considering the circumstances the governorate was going through, some faculties were moved to Damt District, while only the College of Education remained in Al-Dhale. The faculties that were established are as follows:
# | Faculty | Department | |||||
1 | Faculty of Medical Sciences | Pharmacy | Laboratories | Higher Nursing
2 | Faculty of Administrative Sciences | Accounting | Business Administration | Financial and Banking Sciences
3 | Faculty of Humanities and Applied Sciences | Islamic Studies | Arabic Language | English Language | Psychology | Agriculture | Computer Science |
4 | Faculty of Law | General
The establishment of the university came in response to the community's need in Al-Dhale Governorate and neighboring areas, driven by their need and passion for education, as well as the governorate's large area, population density, and its geographical distance from other governorates that contain public universities. It serves all neighboring areas by providing scientifically and practically qualified cadres across various faculties and specializations.
The first nucleus for the founding and establishment of the university began with the creation of four faculties in the building of the (former) Vocational Institute. Al-Dhale University is currently located in the Al-Dur area in Damt city. These four colleges comprise 13 departments, which are as follows: The Faculty of Medical Sciences (Pharmacy, Laboratories, Higher Nursing), the Faculty of Administrative Sciences (Accounting, Business Administration, Financial and Banking Sciences), and the Faculty of Humanities and Applied Sciences (Islamic Studies, Arabic Language, English Language, Psychology, Agriculture, Computer Science), and the Faculty of Law. The university was officially opened in the academic year 2022/2023.
